Samsung's Smart Fridge takes some definite steps towards revitalizing how you approach one of the most important appliances in your household. The limited wireless capabilities, however, can't hide mediocre performance... or the gargantuan price tag, for that matter.

Introduction

We came across the Samsung RF4289HARS during our time in Berlin at the IFA conference, where we took a close look at the interesting potentials of the fancy control panel. Now that we've had a chance to examine the whole package, we can say with some certainty that this fridge really isn't anything terribly special. Sure, the control panel is essentially a built-in tablet—definitely a nifty feature that we enjoyed playing with—but the inability to access the fridge's stored information using the purported Samsung app takes away a lot of its practical uses. Aside from the controls, you're essentially looking at a $3699 refrigerator that offers average performance, average energy efficiency, and average storage capacity. It looks and feels great, but even with sale prices online as low as $3150, it just doesn't seem like the best investment out there. Still, keep an eye on the technology; if Samsung can push the wireless capabilities further, we definitely intend to come back and review our opinions.
